February 13th - Punta Mita to La Cruz

Beautiful sunrise this morning.

The anchorage at sunrise. We slept better last night. Left all windows and doors open. Still hot, but not as bad.

We are going fishing today. We left the anchorage at 8:30.

Trolling past Marieta West

This island is Marieta East. Later there will be tourist cats anchored and lots of snorkeling and paddle boarding going on.

La Onda. Today we are not just fishing, we are catching.

We have 2 Bonita and 2 Skipjack. We continue to catch them but we are releasing them at the boat. We put some bigger lures on to try to catch Something bigger.

Whales right behind us.

As we were trolling in, we were on the NE end of Marietas West, we hit a big, submerged rock. It was very frightening. We were able to continue but we had to shut down the starboard engine, there was a heavy vibration. Our forward bilge came on. David checked the forward compartments and the bilge pump was keeping up with the water that was coming in. The bilge would come on for 30 seconds every 2-3 minutes. He checked the engine room and that looked okay. I was freaking out at first not knowing how bad it was but we were able to get the 8 miles back to La Cruz Shipyard where they were waiting with their lift to haul us out and begin to access the damage.

We found a bed and breakfast, Villa Bella up the hill, to stay tonight. I want to try to find a place closer to the boatyard tomorrow if possible. Villa Bella is nice with a beautiful view, but a very steep hill and a little too far away.
